The AIDS 2020 Local Planning Group is led by a Steering Committee and five working groups.

Steering Committee

The AIDS 2020 Local Planning Group is led by a Steering Committee which currently has 23 members with representatives from the City of San Francisco, City of Oakland, Department of Health, Elected Officials and members of the Conference Coordinating Committee. Read more

Community Access & Engagement

The main role of this working group is to address disparities through inclusion, collaboration and transparency by fostering the unique partnership between Oakland and San Francisco through a global gathering that gives voice to all communities, shares solutions and advances the conversation to end the HIV and AIDS epidemic. Culture, Arts and Global Village

This working group will aim to plan rich and diverse activities to engage with during AIDS 2020 that spotlight the Bay Area’s long history of individual freedom, social justice and the contributions and sacrifices delivered to the world in response to HIV and AIDS. The group will also coordinate a presence at the Global Village which highlights the rich culture of the Bay Area. Read more

Local Politics and Policy

The main goals of this working group are to provide advice and guidance for the IAS leadership; to help assess and influence the policy and political environment to ensure a safe and meaningful participation for all AIDS 2020 attendees including MSM, PWID, sex workers, transgender people; advance IAS legislative and budget priorities; anticipate participants potential immigration and visa issues and assist when possible; provide opportunities for all political viewpoints to be heard and ensure that ending HIV and AIDS remains a political, legislative and budgetary priority in the United States and abroad. This working group is also committed to activating local communities as the United States prepares for the 2020 Presidential Election. Read more

Scientific Leadership

The Bay-Area has been a hub for innovation and research since the AIDS epidemic began. The purpose of this working group is to plan events leading up to and during AIDS 2020 that highlight scientific advancements and best practices that have been pioneered in the area. Read more
